This is an 11.8 mile strenuous and technical ride with a 1400'gain/loss climb in the Sierra Pelona area of Bouquet Canyon. The Sierra Pelona is a pretty but dry area dotted with Oaks. Can be windy and cool on the Ridge. Watch for OHV riders in the area, and there is an Artesian spring about two miles into the ride. Getting there: From Hwy 14 south take Palmdale Blvd (which turns into Leona Valley Rd) west to Bouquet Cyn Rd. South on Bouquet Cyn up the hill to the Bouquet Cyn Reservoir. Find Road 6N08 (on the left at the top of the hil just east of the dam). This is a dirt road with a parking area just 100yds up from Bouquet Cyn Rd. Route: Start your ride here with a little downhill to a sharp turn which begins an uphill. At two miles you will hit the Artesian spring. At 3.8 miles bear left. At 4.4miles, you jump over onto a saddle on Sierra Pelona Ridge. From here you can access a number of trails including the Five Deer Trail. You can also continue east to the Mt. McDil turnaround.
