People living in Antelope Valley love the clear skies and cool summer nights that provide such a beautiful view of the stars.
However, AV News is proud to reveal Antelope Valley's other beautiful stars - rising stars who are young but talented. These young people are truly Rising Stars who are destined for great things.
We will begin the series with a young man who began singing when he was nine years old.
Where does the time go? Since he was nine years old, many of us in the Antelope Valley watched Jake Nelson sing his way toward adult hood and his dreams.
A staple in our community, Jake has sung at countless events including Poppy Festival, AV Fair, HDMG events "Life Festival" and "Senior Expo" and the "United Way Telethon".
But he is always happiest when lending his voice to charitable events and to the Showdown Rodeo.
Now 18 years old, he is a handsome young freshman at Arizona State University where he is majoring in Aeronautical Management Technology with a concentration in Professional Flight. He has already received his private pilot certificate and recently received his high performance complex endorsement.
He will begin his instrument flight training later this month. Don't think for a minute he has traded his singing for flying - he continues to do both!
Jake has been asked to return to his hometown to perform at the Showdown Rodeo, July 15 and 16 at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds.
You can follow Jake and his adventures at www.jacobnelson.com.
Jake is an example of others that have followed and who today perform at many of the events he entertained and thrilled audiences with his beautiful voice.
Editors Note: I can remember the first time I saw Jake perform. The young man was on stage surprising many with his talent and his proud mother and father, Shawna and Pat Nelson were standing in the back of the audience smiling at their son. It was a scene that I saw repeated many, many times.
